Cybersecurity awareness training
Ongoing education that helps employees recognize and respond to threats such as phishing, scam calls and unsafe online behaviour, so they act as a line of defence.
Awareness training teaches staff how attacks actually happen and what to do about them. Good programs are short, regular and practical. They often include simulated phishing emails that let employees practise spotting suspicious messages in a safe way, followed by quick feedback.
Many incidents begin with a person: someone clicks a convincing link, approves a fake payment request or reads out a code over the phone. Technology can reduce these risks but cannot remove them. For a small Alberta business, every employee may have access to email, client data or payment systems, so everyone benefits from training, including owners and managers, who are often targeted directly.
Practical tip: make reporting easy and blame-free. Give staff one clear way to report a suspicious email or call, and thank them when they do, even if it turns out to be harmless. A team that reports quickly is far more valuable than one that is afraid to admit a mistake.
