Access Control Systems

Access Control Systems

Card, fob and mobile door access tied to your staff accounts, so access ends when employment does. Our Access Control Systems design, install and manage electronic door access using cards, fobs and mobile credentials. Because we also manage your IT, door access is integrated with staff onboarding and offboarding, so new employees get the right access on day one and departing employees lose it immediately.

Covers L1-L8

Keys are difficult to control. They get copied, lost and never returned, and changing locks after someone leaves is expensive enough that it often does not happen. Electronic access control replaces keys with cards, fobs or mobile credentials that can be issued, limited and revoked centrally. HSM IT Services designs and installs access control for entrances, server rooms, medication rooms, records storage and other sensitive areas, with door controllers, readers and locking hardware matched to each opening.

Access is assigned by role and schedule. Staff can be limited to certain doors and hours, contractors can receive temporary credentials and every door event is logged, so you can see who entered where and when. Systems can be managed in the cloud, letting authorized administrators lock or unlock doors and adjust access from anywhere. We place controllers on a secured network segment and keep firmware and software current, applying the same security discipline as other connected systems.

The biggest advantage of working with an IT and security provider is integration with your people processes. When HSM IT Services onboards a new employee, door access is set up alongside their computer, email and applications. When someone leaves, their credential is disabled at the same time as their accounts, closing the common gap where a former employee can still enter the building. Access logs also support investigations and demonstrate physical safeguards for personal and health information under PIPA and the HIA.

How it works

01

We review your doors, existing locks and hardware, and which people need access to which areas.

02

Design

We specify readers, controllers, credentials and access levels, coordinating with door and electrical trades.

03

Install

We install and configure the system, enrol staff and train administrators.

04

Manage

We handle access changes with onboarding and offboarding, maintain the system and review logs.

Who it is for

Access Control Systems suit organizations that want to stop managing physical keys, need to restrict access to sensitive areas, or have staff turnover, shift work or contractors coming and going. Clinics and pharmacies with medication and records rooms, professional offices, multi-tenant buildings, warehouses, shops and organizations with multiple sites all benefit from centrally managed, logged access.

Questions we hear

Can staff use their phones instead of cards or fobs?

Many modern access control systems support mobile credentials, letting staff unlock doors using their phone, often through a secure app or digital wallet. Mobile credentials are convenient and easy to issue or revoke remotely. We usually recommend keeping cards or fobs available as well, for staff who prefer them or whose phones are unavailable.

How does access control connect to IT onboarding and offboarding?

When HSM IT Services manages both your IT and your access control, door credentials become part of the same checklist as email, computer and application accounts. A new hire's access is set up before their first day, and a departure removes door access at the same time as other accounts, closing a gap that often leaves buildings exposed.

Can we keep our existing door hardware?

Sometimes. Depending on the doors, frames and existing locks, it may be possible to add readers and electric strikes or maglocks to current hardware. Some openings need new hardware to meet safety and building code requirements, particularly exit doors. We assess each door and coordinate with qualified door hardware and electrical trades as needed.
