Microsoft 365

Microsoft 365 is Microsoft's subscription bundle of cloud services, including Outlook email, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive and the Office apps, along with identity and security tools on higher plans.

Microsoft 365 is the backbone of daily work for many Canadian businesses. Depending on the plan, it also includes security features such as Microsoft Defender, Intune for device management and Entra ID (formerly Azure Active Directory) for sign-ins and conditional access. Business Premium, for example, bundles many of these tools for organizations of up to 300 users.

Because it holds your email, files and user accounts, a compromised Microsoft 365 account can expose a great deal. Attackers frequently target it with phishing pages that imitate the Microsoft sign-in screen. Many security features are available but not switched on by default.

Practical tip: turn on multi-factor authentication for every account, disable legacy sign-in methods, and review your Microsoft Secure Score with your IT provider. Also remember that Microsoft keeps the service running, but you are responsible for your data, so consider a separate backup of mailboxes and files.
