Cloud and Microsoft 365
Microsoft 365 and cloud services that are configured securely, managed properly and used well. Our Cloud and Microsoft 365 services plan, migrate, secure and manage your email, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive and Azure workloads. We harden default settings, manage licences and identities, and help your staff use the tools you already pay for to work more securely and effectively.
Microsoft 365 is the centre of daily work for most Alberta organizations, holding email, files, calendars, chats and identities in one place. That concentration makes it valuable to attackers. Out of the box, many tenants allow legacy authentication, broad external sharing and weak administrative controls. HSM IT Services reviews and hardens your tenant, configuring multi-factor authentication, conditional access, secure administration and sensible sharing policies that protect data without getting in the way of work.
We handle migrations from on-premises servers, other email platforms and older file shares, planning each step so staff experience minimal disruption. Files are organized in SharePoint and Teams with permissions that reflect how your organization actually works. For workloads that do not fit in Microsoft 365, we design and manage Azure or other cloud resources with attention to cost, security and data residency, including Canadian data centre regions where your obligations call for them.
Ongoing management covers user lifecycle, licensing, device enrolment through Intune, and regular reviews of secure score, sign-in risk and sharing activity. Because people are the layer that ultimately decides how data is handled, we also provide short, practical guidance on features such as sensitivity labels, safe sharing and recognizing fraudulent sign-in prompts. Controls align with the CIS Microsoft 365 benchmarks and support privacy obligations under PIPA and the Health Information Act.

How it works
Review
We assess your tenant configuration, licences, identities, sharing settings and existing cloud workloads.
Plan
We prioritize security fixes and design any migration or restructuring with a clear schedule.
Deliver
We implement changes and migrations in stages, communicating with staff at each step.
Manage
We administer the environment ongoing, monitoring security posture, licensing and user changes.
Who it is for
This service suits organizations moving off aging on-premises servers, businesses that adopted Microsoft 365 quickly without a security review, and teams that pay for premium licences but use few of the features. It is particularly useful for clinics, professional firms and non-profits that hold personal or health information and need to show reasonable safeguards for data stored in the cloud.
Questions we hear
Is Microsoft 365 secure by default?
Microsoft provides strong security capabilities, but many are not enabled or fully configured by default, and the right settings depend on your organization. Under the shared responsibility model, you are responsible for identities, access, data sharing and device policies. HSM IT Services configures those controls so the platform's protections actually apply to your users and data.
Can our data stay in Canada?
Microsoft offers Canadian data centre regions for core Microsoft 365 data and many Azure services, and tenants created with a Canadian address generally store core data in Canada. We confirm where your data resides, explain any services that may process data elsewhere and help you document this for privacy assessments under PIPA, HIA or PIPEDA.
Are we paying for Microsoft licences we do not need?
It is common. Organizations often have licences assigned to former employees, mixed plans that do not match roles, or premium features nobody uses. As part of ongoing management, HSM IT Services reviews licence assignments and recommends changes, so you pay for what your staff actually need and use the security features you are already paying for.
